About Wine Collecting

Posted on August 17th, 2010 by admin

If you are in the market for a California wine club then I would highly recommend looking up reviews of the club with that exact name. I think you will be pleasantly surprised with what you find out. The only thing I will caution you about is that you might get a little bit bored if you just restrict yourself to wines from that particular region. You might consider just joining for a few months and then switching to a club from a different region. Just keep cycling through clubs and you will slowly build up a very impressive collection of wine from all around the world. This is what I did and it worked for me.

Toasting Marshmellows

Posted on August 11th, 2010 by admin

While it may not seem like the best time of year to toast marsh mellows for me it couldn’t be better. I live up in the mountains at a higher elevation and the nights can get a little chilly. I recently purchased a outdoor fire pit to warm up my patio on those chilly summer nights. The other day my wife, kids and I were sitting around and my youngest suggested we roast some marsh mellows. I ran inside quick to get the ingredients and luckily we had Graham crackers and marshmellow. We used some barbeque skewers we had and in no time we were enjoying delicious roasted marshmellow.

Change Your Line Frequently – Many trout fishermen neglect this simple trout fishing tip. As you know, light line is a must when fishing for trout. Well, light line tends to kink, coil, and fray easily and needs to be changed often. “Fresh” fishing line performs so much better than used line. My rule of thumb is to change my fishing line monthly during normal fishing conditions and more often if I’m fishing a lot. Losing a big trout due to heavily used line (which has happened to me) is a mistake that should be avoided.

When fishing for trout and using bait (which is a great idea by the way) you want to present your bait in the most natural way possible. Remember, large trout get that way for a reason. They have been caught before, and have seen almost anything that you throw at them before. For this reason you want your bait to look a much like it does naturally as possible. Gang hooks are the best way I’ve seen to accomplish this task, especially if worms are being used as bait.

I jumped into hybrids last year with a trip to Utah to catch Tiger Trout and Splake. I had a ball and caught several of each species from Forsyth Reservoir located in the Fishlake National Forest. Tiger trout lived up to their name fought well, and are terrific looking fish while Splake are just really pretty. This introduction to hybrid trout led to additional species and more information. Hybrid trout are different in many ways. State Fish and Game Departments have created these fish for several different reasons, but there are also unwanted hybrids. Cut-bows and the Bull/Brook Trout cross are unintended hybrids that were created when Rainbows were introduced into Cutthroat areas and Brook Trout were introduced into Bull Trout habitat respectively. Both of these hybrids have reduced the populations of native trout and are one of the reasons that Bull Trout are endangered and some of the Cutthroat subspecies no longer exist. Most of the wildlife agencies are trying to remove the introduced fish, the hybrids, and restore the native trout.
