Any recommendations for a ryokan in Tokyo?

Posted on May 31st, 2010 by admin

Here’s the story. I tried to have a reservation of Annex Katsutaro Ryokan but they told me that the dates I wanted are already booked. My plan is for last week of September. Can anyone recommend a ryokan? Here’s my preferences:
1. around Yanaka or preferably near Yamanote Line
2. single room with a bathroom

How is Tokyo during last week of September? Humid? Rainy? Cold?

Thank you.

What about this? Sawanoya ryokan.

At the end of September in Tokyo, it’s cool and not so humid anyone. It’s a good time to visit Tokyo.

But a typhoon could hit Tokyo at that time if you are not lucky.

Reasonable priced ryokan onsen in Hakone?

Posted on May 29th, 2010 by admin

Hi,
Is there any ryokan onsen’s recommended in Hakone? I am looking for one with outdoor onsen and also onsen and toilet in the room. My budget is around 10 000 yen per person, as there is 3 of us travelling and wanting to experience the Japanese lifestyle.

Ryokan automatically serves Japanese style special dinner and breakfast for each client.
Hakone has very famous popularity as Brand and keep going steady business on so even internationally that ryokan there always offer higher price than other location.

Outdoor roten-buro onsen bath and private in-room onsen bath are also value-added items.
You can’t ask everything too much with low budget at one time.

For your request, I think Yen25,000/night/person minimum for decent memorable use would be quite reasonable.

In addition, avoid any week-end and the day before holidays and cherry-blossom/fall leaves/end-year&new year season. The fare becomes always to be much higher for good demand than normal week-days.

Even if you don’t need any dinner in the ryokan, Yen10,000 would be still almost impossible.
You may try to negotiate special favorable discount with some of them. I don’t think it is realistic.
Onsen tax and some courtesy to maid are necessary besides the fare. The following ryokan might be a bit close to your idea if all subjects and condition smile on you.

Good luck.

Any nice but cheap ryokan near Disneyland Resort Tokyo?

Posted on May 26th, 2010 by admin

Looking for a good value but nice Ryokan or bed and breakfast with easy acess ie train, bus or within walking distance to the Disneyland Resort Tokyo. Otherwise, any good recommendations for a nice Ryokan or b&b anywhere in Tokyo? Impt matter is the price has to be right… Thanks!

The area around TDL is modern area and difficult to find a ryokan. There are only hotels around there.

So you have to find ryokan which is a bit far away from Disneyland.

The below is one of them, Business Hotel Matsushima

http://www.matsushima-ryokan.com/

http://www.matsushima-ryokan.com/access.html

Contact them by email. It’s 5,000-6,000 yen for 1 night, 1 person.

And it’s about 30-50 minutes from TDL by train.

Where is the best traditional Ryokan Onsen?

Posted on May 25th, 2010 by admin

Where is the best traditional Ryokan Onsen in the Kansai or Izu Hanto region of Japan?
Thanks for the URL’s. They are very Handy. We really want to be near Mt Fuji, but i’m worried that Hakone will be too busy and crowded. We want somewhere natural to get away from the big cities for a few days while in Japan.

The better Onsen Ryokan it is, the more expensive it is, too.

In Kansai, there is famous Arima Onsen. How about one of Ryokans as follows.

http://www.taketoritei.com/en/index.php

Or http://www.ryuusenkaku.jp/english/index.html

http://www.hyoe.co.jp/english/index.html

Talking about Izu Hanto, it’s too vague because Izu is not so narrow small spot but quite large area like county, you’d ask some more specific part of Izu, such as Shimoda, Itoh, Amagi, Nagaoka, Shuzenji, Yugashima, Atagawa, Kawazu, Inatori etc. etc.

You may survey through travel agency web such as below.

http://www.ikyu.com/en/

you can put some preferable hints for example Ryokan, Feb 27 one night as is.

http://www.ikyu.com/en/main/ikGExsearch.asp?HorR=2&Chkin=2009-02-27&Chkout=2009-02-28&RsvCnt=1&Men=2&CAreaKbn=0&CArea0=P220&Sort=

Because taste and budget are quite different individually, only you can judge if it is best or not by yourself.
