Koi pond filter is an important part of your garden pond that you should look into. That is, if you plan to create a water garden, then consider buying this device.

These garden pond device comes in many configurations, determined by cost and intricacy. Depending your pond’s design, a koi pond filter, aerator and pump are a necessity.

Installation wouldn’t be a problem, you can place these within the garden pond or at the outside.

However you have to choose your devices wisely because each has their own advantages and restrictions.

A basket filter is the most basic type of koi pond filter. You can stationed these at the surface of the pond or underwater. These pond filters work by forcing the water through a net which captures larger debris which then returns the water to the pond.

You need the basket filter and its the most basic need of your pond. These garden apparatus, comes in different kinds, all of them with the same helpful feature to remove the trash. But you would have to devote a little time to clean the basket, for clogging happens. Do this in accordance to the specifications given by your pond supplier.

An improved type of filter today is the UV filter. It’s available in your favorite garden store today. This type of proves true the saying that “sunlight is the best disinfectant.” The way is works- the UV radiation of sunlight kills algae and microorganisms efficiently. You just have to like these process.

The pond filter exposes water quantities to the powerful UV rays which then neutralizes algae and small organisms that’s not good for your fish.

But remember, they also need some maintenance and cleaning. Grime encrusts the UV bulb housing. You need to remove this so the ultraviolet light goes in at its best possible amount.

You may have notice that this device is a wonderful enhancement. It is true, but it still can’t handle big quantities of water that would be enough for the safety of all the volume in your pond.

The bacterial garden filter on the hand is another type. That is, if you want to use healthy live organisms to purify the water from some algae. You do know that your pond dwellers and fish are all prey from these algae, and you certainly want to disinfect your water from these organisms.

However, these pumps need to be primed with bacteria before they are set to work and clean the water. According to your manufacturer’s advice, this pumps are re-primed frequently in its few weeks of first use and then at intervals much longer thereafter.

The algae and the so called “pond scum” pollutants usually don’t survive these bacterial filters. But when you switch to a basket filter at sometime, you will particularly see some good visible results.

A bacterial filter may take a while. Even as long as a couple of months to clean up water that has foul smell. But just remember to install these filters before any algae problem occur to avoid having a big mess. Usually this happens when plants starts to establish themselves.

There will be a significant effect with regards to the volume of a pond in connection to results of the type of your filtration. So you have to become aware on the actions you will take.

One more reminder- never cut the corners where the pond filters will be placed. This is not good. Just find another area where you can place it.

These devices should also be able to filter at least half of the volume of water per hour. This is a standard but not a requirement.

Foresee the situation where you have to spend a little more money just to have an effective filtration technology. This is just a little sacrifice and it could go a long way.

You might feel this to be extravagant, but remember, this is the most effective way for your fish to remain healthy.
