I will have ten days free and was wondering what I could do in the vicinity of Dalian that would be fun, educational, and relatively inexpensive.
I am even willing to go to several different places as long as it does not cost too much.

I agree with the person above. The best thing to do is stay home and enjoy life for a week. All you’ll see is the back of people’s heads.

   well, as i know, during so called "golden week" everywhere in china would be extremely crowdy, in big city, ppl want to go anywhere, so you have to take the train right? and also, inconvenient trip can be avoided , if i were you, i may go cities near by Dalian, like shen yang, chang chun, and Ha er bin. have you heard of the Chang Bai Mountain, there is a lake in top of that mountain, its very famous,for traveling, this chang bai mountain is located in Ji Lin province and near by north Korea, its said in that lake , a big monster lives in the lake. its true. so take real look, you may get chance to see that monster. and have much fun there
   well, enjoy your traveling and keep safe, traveling is good thing tho, you make choice, where ever you go, just enjoy your staying everyday in this country. i used to travel Europe, and would like to share some experience with you, and one more thing, before you are leaving china, you should go Xin Jing and Tibet.

   Strongest Suggestion: Stay in your home! Unless you want to be a beat-out pilchard.
   In Golden Week, there are ten or more millions of people go out for travel. You will see men, women, children, grandpa, grandma……..people fills every place, train, hotel, zebra crossing, hill, park…….I don’t like that feeling.
