The Color Of Diamonds
Posted on August 16th, 2010 by admin
Diamond colors are graded with letters of the alphabet from D to Z. The reason A, B, and C aren’t used is that they’re kept in reserve just in case a higher grade diamond is ever found. That’s not very likely though, as D diamonds are altogether colorless and white – it’d be impossible to imagine anything whiter.
The diamonds from D to F inclusive are referred to as colorless, and those from G to J are referred toknown as near-colorless. This distinction, however, is not something for the ordinary person to concern themselves with as non-professionals won’t see any difference even between a D diamond and a J diamond. Even jewelers can only judge the color by comparing with a chart, and even then under specific conditions (i.e. face down on a white card). So if you are to buy even a J diamond for your engagement rings or bridal sets, know that to all intents and purposes, its colorless.
