Reasonable priced ryokan onsen in Hakone?

Posted on May 29th, 2010 by admin

Hi,
Is there any ryokan onsen’s recommended in Hakone? I am looking for one with outdoor onsen and also onsen and toilet in the room. My budget is around 10 000 yen per person, as there is 3 of us travelling and wanting to experience the Japanese lifestyle.

Ryokan automatically serves Japanese style special dinner and breakfast for each client.
Hakone has very famous popularity as Brand and keep going steady business on so even internationally that ryokan there always offer higher price than other location.

Outdoor roten-buro onsen bath and private in-room onsen bath are also value-added items.
You can’t ask everything too much with low budget at one time.

For your request, I think Yen25,000/night/person minimum for decent memorable use would be quite reasonable.

In addition, avoid any week-end and the day before holidays and cherry-blossom/fall leaves/end-year&new year season. The fare becomes always to be much higher for good demand than normal week-days.

Even if you don’t need any dinner in the ryokan, Yen10,000 would be still almost impossible.
You may try to negotiate special favorable discount with some of them. I don’t think it is realistic.
Onsen tax and some courtesy to maid are necessary besides the fare. The following ryokan might be a bit close to your idea if all subjects and condition smile on you.

Good luck.

Last November in stayed in Fuji Hakone Guesthouse and really enjoyed it. They charge 15,750 yen for a large triple room. There is an outdoor and indoor onsen, which you can reserve for private use. No onsen inside the room, though.
